Chicken bone broth, undoubtedly a yummiest treat for dogs. My dogs love to drink it, lick it and eat it in all the ways. There are a number of Chicken bone broth options in market but I always prefer to make it at home. Because a homemade recipe is always free of preservatives and contains a lot of love.
Let’s cook a delicious Homemade chicken bone Broth for dogs,
Ingredients
- Chicken bones and feet
- Water
- Veggies (optional)
Recipe
Start the recipe by taking a cooking pot and pour water in it. You need to take enough water so the bones can generously dip in it. Now bring the water to boil and add washed chicken bones in it. Soon you will see the skim floating over water, remove it. Now let the bones boil in water for an hour on medium flame. After an hour turn the heat off and let it simmer for 3 to 4 hours. At this point, you can separate liquid broth and chicken bones (and flesh) and give it to your dog as it is ready to use.
For Later use
Also, you can save this liquid broth in your freezer for later use. It can be given in the form of frozen ice cubes to lick or you can defrost it for the dogs to drink it.
Additional
However, if you want to feed your dog the flesh portion to your dog then you should boil the chicken for another hour or 2 and let it simmer for three hours. It will help soften the meat which becomes easy to chew and eat for older and small dogs.
Optional
If your dog is old and weak to eat meat and other chewy food and veggies then here is a great option to add more nutrition to your dog’s food. While boiling chicken bones you can add veggies in it, it will not only soften the veggies but also let their nutrients leach out in the broth. It is a very very great meal for weaker dogs.
Considerations
I am sharing some points to consider while cooking bone broth for dogs, take a careful grip on these;
- Don’t use salt and spices
- do not use onion or garlic
- Preservatives are highly discouraged
- Strain the liquid to avoid any hard bones and residue
